When the snow melts...

This time of year is so depressing and hard to find anything interesting to photograph. Not that I don't enjoy the challenge, but when everything is gray, dead and lifeless and that's all you've been exposed to for the last 6 months, it's tough to come up with something new and exciting. In addition, when the snow melts around the city, all the garbage and discarded things from people through the winter are left on the roads, sidewalks and alleys. I guess that's part of big city living, but being someone who is environmentally conscious, it's pretty disgusting and upsetting to see such carelessness.

Not that I don't like the winter though. I think I'm lucky to live in a place where we have four distinct seasons throughout the year. I'd say there's more opportunity there and than a place where it's summer all year round... though after six months of winter, it does sound tempting.

Nudity in North America

Why is nudity in photographs so unacceptable in North America? I can understand if it's not tasteful, but people in North America seem to be uncomfortable with the idea or too up-tight about it to even give an honest opinion half the time. This site has been a great outlet to show some of my nude work, but it's still saddening that I can't share this type of work with people around here.

I think tasteful nude work is a beautiful tribute and celebration of our bodies and should be explored, revered and paid attention to.

Inspiration

Photography started as a very small unimportant hobby for me. Over the years as a graphic designer, I've had the opportunity to work with many great photographers on projects and learned little tricks here and there. Eventually I bought my own camera and started using some of my own work in design projects just to make things completely my own.

Once I gained a little more confidence I started up a photoblog. More so for the ability to share some work with people around the world and join the online community in the hopes of getting some 'free' feedback and maybe learning a thing or two. My blog took off, and I'm now getting thousands of visitors a month which is a huge compliment for me in itself.

Then one day I got an email from a person I've never met, nor heard of, inviting me to take a look at Art Limited. So I took a look around and figured out how things worked, read some other people's comments, looked through some portfolios and after a couple days I decided to join. Since then, I've found so much inspiration on this site from all the different styles and subjects people from all over the world work with that I noticed some of it spilling into my own work. If anything, this community has quietly pushed me to do more, try harder and think more creatively.

So, with that in mind, I'd like to say thank you to all of you.
